Marina Abramović - Rhythm 0
Marina Abramović tests the limits of the relationship between performer and audience, as well and how people behave when there are no social consequences, by providing 72 objects to the audience. The objects ranged from pleasure (feathers, honey) to pain (scissors, whip, scalpel, a gun), and a variety in between. The performance started passively, but soon escalated to violence.
When the performance was over, it was said that most of the audience members that participated in the violent acts were ashamed and would not make eye contact with Marina. Marina later described the treatment to her as "painful to witness", and reducing her to "a Madonna (intense disgust or hatred), Mother, and Whore".
